Bring your friends, kids, neighbours, parents and cousins and join us for a weekend in enjoying and celebrating the first of what is sure to become a highlight on the annual community calendar in Windhoek.

Namibia and South Africa share a rich culture when it comes to music and entertainment. The two seem so far apart, but when you bring them together for a weekend of music and fun, it is sure to be Festival of note!

The event will see the biggest South African music stars, combined with the biggest Namibian acts on a two day festival, focussing mainly on Afrikaans music.

The Huisgenoot Hart van Windhoek Festival will be held at the Wanderers Sportsgrounds, Windhoek from 15 – 16 October 2010. Festival goers can look forward to performances by some of South Africa and Namibia's most popular artists including Kurt Darren, Romanz, Mango Groove, Nianell, Bok van Blerk, Juanita du Plessis, Ray Dylan, Nicholis Louw and many more.

The line up for Friday 15 October will be for a younger crowd. Snotkop, Prime Circle, Stefan Ludik and Arno Jordaan will get the party started and make sure that teenagers, students and other young fans enjoy a night of vibey pop and rock.
The program for Saturday 16 October will be filled to brim with music and entertainment for the whole family. Kurt Darren, Mango Groove, Nianell, Romanz, Bok van Blerk, Juanita du Plessis among others will make this special weekend an experience to remember.

Fans that have always wanted to meet their favourite artist will be thrilled to hear that the artists will be available for signing sessions after their performances. It's a heart thing. At Die Hart van Windhoek Festival.

The weekend will also be colourful and festive with food- arts- and craft-stalls; appearances by Television personalities and highlights that are unique to Windhoek and South Africa. Another proud sponsor, Shoprite, has also invited a Boerewors champion to join in over the weekend to assist in making mouth-watering boerewors rolls. It will be fun in the sun with Gourmet boerewors!

KykNet 's children's programme Kowee will provide a safe area for kids to play. Mom and Dad will be able to leave the kids in the care of responsible child carers.

It is envisaged that the event will see a Friday (With a slightly younger-rock-pop focus) and a big family day planned for the Saturday. Apart from the music (Which will form the main attraction) the following activities and attractions are planned:

Okapuka Game Drive

The land at the foot the Otjihavera Mountains is home to a large variety of birds and mammals. Herds of antelope roam the bush, hooves of Zebra and Giraffe pound the soil and rhinoceros hide in the dense grass. In deep, mystical blue waters, reflecting the purple and orange sky crocodiles hold their own.

Big Cats Experience with Sundowner Tour (Leopard, Lion, Cheetah- Cats Unlimited)

This tour will take you to the Amani Farm ±20 KM away from Windhoek. This is a rehabilitation centre for Cheetahs, Leopards & Lions that have been orphaned or cannot survive on their own in the wild. After they get well they are released back in to the wild. Here at close range, you will see the world’s fastest mammals, the “elegant cheetah”. Experience the thrill of a Lion roaring and discover the mesmerizing beauty of the secretive Leopard. Here you can take excellent photos as the distance to the cats will only be 10 to 15 meters. At the end of the Game Drive you are invited to enjoy the sunset with a glass of sparkling wine. Bushman Walk

Caracal Walk

Take a guided walk with two of the tame caracals. During this walk you will get to see how these animals behave in the wild, stalking birds and small mammals as they regain their natural instincts and hone their hunting skills. Baby Leopard Walk

Spend some time with two baby leopard cubs down by the water hole as they play in the grass and climb the trees before taking a leisurely walk with them back to their enclosure. “Conservation Tour” - Behind the scene

During this very special activity you will have breakfast with the director of a renowned rehabilitation centre just outside of Windhoek.  Visit the animal food preparation area and learn about the different research projects taking place. Guests will have the opportunity to play with and feed baby baboons and meet the 3-legged cheetah, Lucky, made famous by the Volkswagen advertisement. Spend time with three tame Cheetahs, witness Wild Dogs swimming and walk with tame Caracals though the veld.

Bird walk & Vulture Restaurant

This 5km guided walk is an excellent way to experience the veld. Spot different bird species including; African Hoopoe, Lilac Breasted Roller, Grey Go-Away-Bird, Kori Bustard and many more. You will most likely encounter Warthogs, Antelope and Black Backed Jackal along the way. Whether you’ve never been bird watching before or you are an experienced Twitcher an experienced guide would be there to help you identify the different species. Ending this walk you will relax in our “Vulture Hide” and watch as the White-Backed and Lappet-Face Vultures feed on today’s feast.

Charter Flights

There are various destinations which can be explored by charter flights in 5-seater Cessna 210 aircraft. We suggest you leave early morning and fly via the Khomas Highlands, Namib Desert and Naukluft Mountain Range to the Sossusvlei. Get a bird’s eye view of the highest dunes in the world amidst scenic landscapes in the oldest desert of the world.

Swakopmund

Flight to the coastal resort of Swakopmund, wedged between the oldest desert and the Atlantic Ocean; visit the Natural History Museum, as well as the unique Aquarium of the Ministry of Fisheries.  After lunch, at a local restaurant, continue to Walvis Bay for a visit to the harbour and the lagoon with its seabird colonies.  Return to Swakopmund airport via the dunes, where you have the opportunity to climb and experience the dunes, before boarding the aircraft for the scenic afternoon flight to Windhoek.
